Speed skating is the most extensive event in skating sports which also enjoys the longest history. Mens and womens speed skating were debuted on the Winter Olympic programme respectively in 1924 and 1960.

Speed skating is an ice sport in which the skating speed is measured on a 400-meter track. 400-meter track is divided into inner and outer lanes, with two people competing in one group, and when each skating lap reaches the lane change area, the athlete who starts in the inner lane must switch to the outer lane, while the athlete in the outer lane must switch to the inner lane, whoever is faster wins.
