Volcanic Geopark
The park boasts attractions like the Big Boiling Pot, Cucumber Spring, Drumming Spring, Pearl Spring, Eyeglass Spring, and Beauty Pool.
The Big Boiling Pot is a 6-meter-diameter, 1.5-meter-deep sulfur pond located 24 kilometers southwest of the city center. Surrounded by eight semicircular stone slabs, it maintains a constant heat with water temperatures reaching 96.6°C, earning its nickname "The Great Cauldron".
Tourist Spots in Tengchong
Nestled in western Yunnan bordering Myanmar, Tengchong is a picturesque county with a rich history and numerous cultural landmarks.
1. Dragon River Rafting
This attraction lies in Luxi Town, 30 kilometers from Tengchong City. Neighboring sites include Black Fish Stream, Columnar Joint Rock, and Beihai Wetland. The 5.2-kilometer rafting course, also known as the 'Jewel Cruise', lasts about 90 minutes. With gentle drops, meandering rivers, and scenic riverbanks, the river stays liquid year-round, making it suitable for漂流 all seasons. The park operates year-round, offering distinct experiences across each season.

2. Heshun Ancient Town
Situated 4 kilometers west of Tengchong County, Heshun is a renowned overseas Chinese hometown and an important stop on the Tea Horse Road and the ancient Silk Road. Its historic architecture sprawls along mountain slopes, peppered with temples, archways, and well-preserved ancient dwellings. Local treats like Cun Doufen and Lin Aini's osmanthus cake offer a taste of yesteryear.
3. Volcanic and Geothermal National Geopark
The park houses 97 volcanoes and several lava platforms, ranking among China's top four volcanic clusters. It's an ideal site to explore diverse volcanic landscapes, featuring volcanic cones, caves, lava flows, lakes, dammed waterfalls, and columnar joints. Notable spots within the park include Dàkōngshān, Xiǎokōngshān, Hēikōngshān, Columnar Joint Rock, and Cuttlefish Stream. Hot air balloon rides are available for a unique perspective.
4. Gudong Silver Apricot Village
A village adorned with over 3,000 apricot trees, divided into four areas. Chénjiāzhài, accessible from the Silver Apricot Square at the village entrance, sees the highest concentration of tourists and trees. Other regions offer more tranquility. Book accommodations early during peak viewing periods.
5. Tengchong Hot Sea
Covering 9 square kilometers, this area features 80+ hot springs and geysers, including 10 groups with temperatures above 90°C. Steam envelops the area amidst a veil of mist. The Big Rolling Pot typifies the thermal wonders here, alongside other attractions like the Eyeglass Spring and Beauty Pool, each with its own story.
6. Beihai Wetland in Tengchong
As Yunnan's sole national wetland reserve, Beihai is a highland volcanic lake surrounded by mountains. Reeds, water bamboo, and unknown wildflowers create a colorful tapestry that blurs the line between land and water. April to May showcases the blooming lotus flowers, turning the湿land into a breathtaking spectacle. Paddling through the lake feels like gliding across a grassy plain.
